Darted Sgraffito Vessels

          For this assignment, students were introduced to a technique called Sgraffito. Sgraffito is a surface technique created by applying layers underglazes to leather hard clay and then scratching off parts of the layers to create images and patterns and reveal the clay color underneath. The students had the choice of creating on large vase or two smaller cups, and they also had the choice between red, black, blue, or turquoise underglaze.
